The Meaning of Glafka

The owl, ‘Glafka’ (γλαύκα in ancient Greek), is the bird sanctuary of the goddess Athena, a symbol of wisdom, prudence, and the city of Athens. One of the aliases of the Goddess of Wisdom was “glafkopis”.

The Owl symbolizes wisdom, because it is a nocturnal bird with excellent vision even in the dark. Therefore, it has the natural ability to see the “unseen side of things”, where others fail because of darkness.
